Are you thinking about buying your first sex toy, but have some concerns? We have asked some of our customers in India to write about their experience of buying their first sex toy and to share some insights about what to keep in mind when buying sex toys in India. Hopefully you'll find their honest sex toy reviews helpful and inspiring!

1. Sunidhi: "It was my partner's initiative"
When my partner first suggested that we ‘invest’ in a sex toy, I was appalled. Our sex life was fantastic. Why ruin something when it’s already good? “I read some good reviews about this Rabbit Vibrator thing-y,” he said grinning ear to ear. “Come on. Don’t be a prude!” Well, that did it. (I am no prude!! Plus, I’d seen Carrie Bradshaw tout the Rabbit Vibrator on Sex in the City and if it was good enough for Carrie, it was good enough for me!) We were going to buy that damn, sex toy.
Naturally, as the ‘investment’ expert in the relationship, I wanted to take the lead on this new project of ours. And naturally, I wanted to know if buying a sex toy in India would be a risk-free operation - Is buying sex toys in India legal? Given the recent ban bandwagon that everyone had jumped on, I was completely convinced that there was no way to legally buy a vibrator in India. Surprisingly, after a bit of research online I realised that it was actually all legit. Well, legit as long as there were no obscene images on the sex toy packaging. Hmmm, who’d have thought!
John* and I decided that this was a sign. I was already warming up to the idea of getting a sex toy (seriously, no pun intended) and in many ways actually excited about getting one. And as luck would have it a friend of mine recommended Lovetreats. Finally, I plucked up the courage to talk to someone on their customer support chat. A lovely (and a very patient) executive called Ann answered all my questions and helped me pick out an oh-so-sleek looking vibrator called the Amorino. They even had a review for the Amorino on their blog and that cinched the deal for me. The rest, as the saying goes, is history.
My ‘treat’ arrived in a simple brown box with no mention of the contents or ‘Lovetreats’ anywhere. Inside, wrapped in lovely pink paper, was my treat along with user guides, a sachet of a water-based lube (which I forgot to order and felt, that was very thoughtful of them) and a cute little postcard.
Needless to say, I was one happy customer. As for the vibrator itself, just one word: wow! Perfect for a beginner like me and yet versatile enough to be used in the long run as I grow more ‘experienced’.

2. Radhika: "Inspired by Sex and the City"
You know play dates? The excitement and anxiety of it all? Well, my play date with a vibrator, which was a first, felt kinda like that. I like being on top of things. So I took my first time with a vibrator very, very seriously. The newbie that I am when it comes to sex toys, I started looking for it on the regular e-commerce sites. Now, if you’ve ever done this route, you’ll know that a search for female vibrators will lead you to massagers.
That’s when I read about companies selling sex toys in India online. Bidding adieu to massagers, I ventured into the mostly bright pink world of female vibrators. Why bright pink? I dunno but it looked fun. Even better, they are what they are and not in the guise of prude massagers.
I was familiar with the Rabbit. Sex and the City made it big, not like Mr. Big, but a different kind of big. Being a classic kind of girl, I decided to go with a classic Rabbit Vibrator with a thrusting function which I found very intriguing. These were its selling points and I was sold – rippling shaft (curious) and 12-vibration speed (curiouser). I was on my way to check out my first sex toy on Lovetreats. It was all done in a jiffy. There’s discreet packaging which I think is super important when buying your first sex toy in India, since any courier has to travel two stories and a lot can happen en route.
The doorbell! And there was my first sex toy, unknown to the world, nestled inside a box that declared ‘personal care item’. The first thing I loved about the rabbit vibrator was the smooth silicone that feels like skin and not hard plastic. The vibrator came with batteries so there was no need to turn the house upside down looking for them. It’s easy to carry in a purse but if it were to fall out, it is what it is. No massager this.
After playing around with it to see how it works, I made swirls across the skin of my arm (goosebumps!). By the way, the bit about the seven speed is true and you can go from low to high intensity and switch between the two. Same goes for pressure. For penetration, I used some lube – it’s far more comfortable that way. Before long, it was a big hello to the cosmos!
Personally, I thought my rabbit vibrator struck the right vibes when stimulating the clitoris because of the slight curve at the tip of the rabbit ears that seemed to know what it was doing. I preferred the lower speeds because I don’t really care for the buzz in my hands as the speed goes higher. And the possibility of something intense racks up the intensity more than the speed, at least for me. I must say Amy first sex toy felt over-the-top delicious against sheer lacies. The friction, methinks. I'm glad I got over my anxieties and decided to order my first sex toy in India. Needless to say, my rabbit vibrator has found a place next to my bedside ;)

3. Priya: "My first time using a sex toy"
First off, confession time, I am somewhat of a newbie when it comes to sex toys. My ex-boyfriend had once brought back a rabbit vibrator from one of his work trips abroad, and while I was surprised and flattered, the rabbit spent more time in a locked drawer at work than it did in my possession, because I lived with my parents at the time and was scared to bring it home. I also shudder to think who discovered my secret because the rabbit got um lost at office. It was all quite mysterious, and I remember frantically looking for it when I quit my job. But it was never reunited with its rightful owner and I hope whoever owns it now is a happy bunny!
So now that the good, kind folks at Lovetreats gave me the Fun Factory Jam vibrator to use and review, I felt really excited and curious to try my first real sex toy. How cool is it that you can actually buy sex toys in India these days?! The Jam comes in a pencil-box sized package and is easy to store in a discreet bag in your bedside drawer, while travelling or otherwise. Definitely a plus when you travel in India! It's a battery operated vibrator, so basically a dildo with a vibrating function. It is non-threatening to look at - mine was a cute neon pink colour and fit into my palm. In terms of the feel of this sex toy, it’s sort of firm but pliable, the silicone feels smooth and has some ridges on it in the centre. It uses 1 AA battery which hasn’t run out and I already tried it out four times since I got my hands on it...
Now about how it feels, sounds, and how it made me feel. To begin with, it is super duper quiet! I mean I could use it with my mom in the room and she wouldn’t know (I would never do that of course, but you get my point). In my experience, this sex toy is good for solo play as well as adding some fun in the bedroom with your partner, as part of a new foreplay routine. Secondly, it is very easy to work. You just have to turn the cap to the right and get it going, as it has just one speed setting. For me the greatest pleasure from the toy was to use it like a massager, so externally on my clit and not so much as a dildo. I normally never use lube, but while using this sex toy I really felt the need for some extra lube to heighten sensations and have it glide easier. I highly recommend using some sort of water based lubricant to actually get the best of out this sex toy. Post use, it is easy to clean with just water and soap. I went a little overboard and used Dettol also!
All in all, the Jam is definitely a winner! Owning a sex toy for the first time motivated me to pay more attention to my body during a busy work week and gave me all sorts of pleasure. I found it super easy to operate and loved the intensity of the vibrations. Next time, I would probably spring for a more expensive sex toy with more settings and speeds, because I know my body and what it needs. But if you are just looking for a reasonably priced, quiet, discreet looking sex toy to get you started and see how it feels, the Jam is a perfect place to begin. Guys, if you want to surprise your wife or girlfriend with a ‘thinking of you’ sort of toy that you can use together or for her solo-times, this is the most friendly, sweet looking thing you can go for! And it may just make her miss you more #justsaying. Hope my review helped you and inspired you to get your first sex toy. It was fun to do all the hard work to write it for you folks!
